OPERATIONS

BEFORE VESSEL ARRIVAL

Our terminal facilities in Hong Kong operate 24x7 throughout the year. We have dedicated teams to make vessel and barge berthing arrangements.

Before a vessel arrives in Hong Kong, Modern Terminals receives detailed information regarding the loading and unloading list as well as other cargo details. Shipping lines will also make onward declarations for all containers to be handled in Hong Kong.

Modern Terminals' Terminal Operating System generates the discharge and loading sequence and container handling equipment deployment plan for both quayside and yard operations.

Barge operators or shipping lines make requests for container delivery/collection and associated container declarations via OnePort’s Common Barge Platform.

External truck drivers make appointments for container collection by phone.

TERMINAL OPERATIONS PROCESS FLOW

Export Container

An external truck driver scans his/her Trucker ID card to enter the terminal and deliver an export container. The truck goes through container inspection and seal checking before the driver submits the relevant documents to the Gatehouse team for data capture.

The project on Electronic Booking Confirmation Note (eBCN) for full digitalisation is underway.

Export Container

The external truck driver is notified of a specific stacking area within the yard where the export container should be delivered by either one of the below functions :

a. Television Notification System (TVNS)
b. HKiPort mobile app

Export Container

A Rubber-tyred Gantry Crane (RTG) lifts the container from the external truck and stacks in its designated position in the yard.

Export Container

The departing truck driver receives an Equipment Interchange Receipt (EIR) from the terminal at the Exit Gate and departs the terminal.

Export Container

The export container is lifted by another Rubber-tyred Gantry Crane (RTG) onto an internal truck and moved to the quayside for loading onto a vessel by a Quay Crane (QC).

Import Container

An import container is discharged from a berthed vessel onto an internal truck by a Quay Crane (QC).

Import Container

The internal truck moves the container to a designated position within the yard where a Rubber-tyred Gantry Crane (RTG) lifts it into place for temporary storage.

An external truck driver makes an appointment for container collection via the HKiPort mobile app.

Import Container

The external truck driver scans his/her Trucker ID card to enter the terminal at the appointment time and go through the Electronic Release Order (eRO ) process by scanning a specific QR code at Gate House’s kiosk.

Import Container

After collection of the container the truck goes to the Exit Gate for container and seal inspection before receiving an Equipment Interchange Receipt (EIR) when leaving the terminal.

Export Container

A barge makes an appointment by phone and arrives at the terminal at the confirmed appointment time for discharging. An export container is moved by either a Quay Crane (QC) or Harbour Crane to the waiting internal truck.

The internal truck moves the container to the Rubber-tyred Gantry Crane (RTG) stack for temporary storage or directly to the quayside for loading onto a vessel by Quay Crane (QC) direct.

Import Container

An import container is discharged from a vessel berthed at the terminal by Quay Crane (QC) and is transported to the stacking area via an internal truck.

Import Container

A barge makes an appointment and arrives at the terminal at the confirmed appointment time. The import container is transported from the stacking area to the barge for loading.

Transshipment

A transshipment container is discharged onto an internal truck from the inbound vessel by Quay Crane (QC).

Transshipment

The internal truck moves the transshipment container to the Rubber-tyred Gantry Crane (RTG) stack for temporary storage.

Transshipment

During the arrival of Outbound Vessel, as pre-declared by shipping lines, the transshipment container is transported to the quayside by internal truck for loading onto the outbound vessel by Quay Crane (QC) as scheduled.
